This week, we’ll dive deeper into the last driver of employee engagement: psychological availability (having the capacity to engage). This one is influenced by outside factors , but employers still have a big impact particularly in recognizing job-driven stressors, as well as providing training and feedback.

Here are some considerations for psychological availability:

  • Does the person have the physical resources they need?
  • Is job stress impacting the person’s ability to renew outside of work?
  • How is their confidence in their ability to do the job?
  • Are they confident that if they invest themselves, they’ll succeed?
  • Is there enough training and feedback so that team members can feel confident to do their work?

Action: Use this checklist to gauge whether your team has psychological availability.
